What is posture?

Posture is simply how you hold your body. There are two different types of posture: static and dynamic. What is the difference between them?

  • Static posture is how your body holds itself when you are not moving. For example: sleeping, sitting, or standing.
  • Dynamic posture is the same except while moving. For example: walking or bending over.

If you think about that… that means that every single moment, we are in a position of posture.

It should be said that posture is extremely complex, the best way to understand your posture and to have it assessed, is to visit an expert in musculoskeletal conditions and biomechanics. This can be your local chiropractor, physical therapist, or similar professionals. If you have any questions or concerns about your posture, you can always reach out to our office at (615) 375-7100 and we can give you both an assessment and give you specific recommendations for improvement. This is vital because each person has a vastly different build, and movement type. In our next blog we are going to dig into some of the ways that posture affects our mind and body to improve our overall wellness.
